I have created the second part of the cog wheal the part where it would be hold by hand and put in to a round motion that in theory will make the animation move the process of creating this part when well a have cut out a 2 circle out of card board with a blade (on a cutting mat wearing Kevlar gloves)
I hot glue the two peaces together to add volume to the circle i made a small rod by cutting out 3 strips of card board and making two of them thinner so after I glue them up it takes a form of a long plus which i raped around in plaster bandage which give it a round shape, then I dig out a hole in the middle of the circle then I had put the rod in to it stabilizing it with hot glue and then using more plaster bandage to make it stay in that form ill join it with the cog part the same way using plaster bandage I might rap it in tape to give it more stable texture for the task.
The first horizontal circle that i made was not staple enough and also i wanted it smaller so to do so i decided to try out different materials that would work better so i decided to work with wire instead of card board I made the shape I wanted out of wire i covered it with one layer of plaster bandage then I asked a advanced student for help with normal plaster as i thought it will be a good and a fast way to make the circle however it was too heavy to be used.
I decided to move on to working with chicken wire so a made a circle out of wire and the warped it in chicken wire the circle wasn't flat I tried to punting a board down on the circle and siting on it to flatten it out but it didn't work as i was trying to bend it to shape my class mate have suggested that i used card board and as i was explaining how i did it and it didn't work i realized that it wasn't the fault of the materials but the way it was made so i tried again in a different way that would be better most of the card board was too small to cut out one big circle like that so I only had one full card board circle and then i had tessellated Peaces of card board on top of it and glued it to it so it would be thicker then I cut out two half circles from card board the to reduce the area that I have to cover with plaster bandage to make it all a little bit more solid and stable I was frustrated that I have wasted time on trying to think this one out and make it work when the answer was there from the beaning but at least I have a little bit more knowledge about some materials and I know that should try couple times with the same material or at least analyse carefully if there is no other better way to create something using that material
I had to change up the box construction as it original purpose was different I had cleaned out the inside of it by simply ripping out the hanging newspaper and i make it more secure by taping up some of the joints i also have saw of the bottom part to make it a biter shorter I also have cut out a door so I can work on the gears easier and i made a hole in the top of it for a big rod .
To create the big rode I decided to use the same long plus method that i raped in plaster bandage and in tape for better texture and protection i was surprised with the stability of the rod but not for long as it broke moust simple way will be to buy a broom skit .
