change of plans

Now i will be making the digital animation in my own time as Jon(my tutor) wants me to create some in 3 dimensional space as it will be more interesting and more challenging to create rather then a simple animation

So i tried to come up with some kind of mechanism that woulds show different pictures at first i wanted to make it simple and do it it a tip of a comic so I have created this test sample out of clay and the mechanism was created out of a two peaces of hollow block and  two wheals one bigger then the other the small one was also much thicker so after the construction was don't by spinning the small one you would move the bigger one  that was with one opening to look at it where the image was  it worked well but it would be harder to do on bigger scale and also clay shrinks when it drys also it is brittle.

I made a rectangle block out of clay that I cut in half 

Using this modelling toll I cut out two half's of a circle 

then I made more hollow space in the clay blocks with a different toll with a bend in it

I made a cylinder / handle that can be span making the mechanism move i fitted it in the block and made a bigger flat circle and that would be mostly covered by the rectangle

I placed the circle in the hollow space of the rectangle and the put a pice of wire in the middle of it so it would hold in place

Then I covered the top of wire with clay so it is more secured I trying to use tape as a way of connecting the circle and the cylinder but the tape did not stick well to clay (I should now) but I did use a rubber band in the end which worked well so I made a hole in one half of the rectangle where the letters where visible but after the clay dried the mechanism stopped working.

I looked in different ways to put the animation to movement in the 3 dimensional space after talking with Jon (tutor) thought about ropes and old school film machines the but I decided to work with cogs at the end

I decided to create the cogs out of card board and then cover it with plaster bandage to make it tougher I printed a picture of a cog  that i cut out using scissors and a craft knife to cut it out the i draw around it on card board and the cut the cardboard out 3 times and glue them together to make it thicker next step is to cover it  with plaster bandage after that I need make a bigger horizontal cog resembling thing  that would fit the small cog  then I will need to stabilise to horizontal cog in  the box a straight bar attached to the top of the box going through the cog should be enough but if the cog is wobbly I could make it stabilise it by sticking some wire inside the box I also need to make the small  cog be connected to a handle so that it can be span making the construction move



I tryed to free had the cog but I quicly relisided that if i want  to make it  work i need to be more acurate with it

So i printed out this cog shape cut it out with scissors and used craft knife to make it bit more clean on the edges and then I glued the cut out to the cardboard with simple glue so it don't move wail i trace around it

after i got all the cut outs i glued them together and covered them with plaster bandage so the cog is a bit more sold

I used wire to measure out the size of the horizontal cog and used card long cut outs of card board to form a circular shape

At first i used glue to stick it together but it wasn't strong so i used tape to keep it together before i put the plaster bandage on it i forgot to put the line in the middle that I added on later.
 

I need to some sort of holder for the peaces of paper I am thinking of wire and blue tack
